Description from the seller
The Memoirs of Guy Joli encompass the political history of France under Louis XIII, Richelieu, Mazarin and Louis XIV.
As is often the case, the following three works were bound together: the two parts of the Memoires de Mr. Joli himself (Amsterdam, 1718), the Memoires touchant les affaires du Cardinal de Retz avec la Cour & le Clergé (also by Joli, Amsterdam, 1718) and finally the Memoires de Madame la duchesse de Nemours in three parts (Amsterdam, 1718). Fully complete, with pagination [viii]-191-xxiv-234 for Joli; 67 for the Retz; [viii]-156-[iv] for the Nemours.
Both works by Joli are first editions; the mémoires of Madame la duchesse de Nemours (Marie d’Orléans-Longueville) are a reissue.
Both the binding and the block are in excellent condition. Contemporary full calf leather binding with slight cracks in the spine, red title label, fleurons and gilt edges, red on the cut. Beautiful pages with no stains or other defects.
A beautiful copy.
