Description from the seller

Antique Oud-Hollandse brass coal bin / firewood chest with richly repoussé relief scenes – ca. 1900

Offered: a beautiful and characterful antique coal bin (turf or firewood chest) executed in a rich Old Dutch style.
This decorative piece is made from a wooden base, completely clad with repoussé brass plates that feature very detailed reliefs.
The front and sides display lively, craftfully worked inn and farmyard scenes that strongly recall the masterpieces of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish masters.
The sloping lid is also fully decorated with a detailed relief scene.
This type of chest was used around the turn of the century (19th/20th century) beside the fireplace or stove to store fuel elegantly.
Today it is a fantastic, atmospheric decorative piece for both a classical and an eclectic interior; it is clean on the inside due to the absence of an inner tray, and can therefore be used as a firewood bin, for toys, newspapers, or a unique storage chest.

The chest is in a beautiful antique condition.
The brass has developed a wonderful deep patina over the years, which gives extra depth to the relief details.
Normal signs of aging and use are present (such as light scratches, tiny dents, or discolorations appropriate to its age), which contribute to the historic character.
See the photos for a full and accurate personal impression of the condition.
