Description from the seller
Kain Panjang — Central Java
This finely executed kain panjang was created in Central Java during the mid-20th century. Made from fine imported cotton, it is entirely hand-drawn using the traditional wax-resist batik technique and coloured with natural sogan dyes.
Across the warm brown ground, magnificent birds with dramatically flowing plumage appear among butterflies, leafy branches, flowers, and scattered foliage. The lively, freely arranged composition is enriched by delicate internal detailing and subtle contrasts of deep indigo, brown, and creamy white.
The refined drawing, expressive bird motifs, and harmonious natural-dye palette demonstrate the skill of an accomplished batik artisan.
Materials: Fine imported cotton, natural dyes
Technique: Hand-drawn wax-resist batik (batik tulis)
Origin: Central Java, Indonesia
Date: Mid-20th century
