Jane Doe 6 is an oil painting from the United Kingdom by artist Raffaele Palmieri (born 1988), dated 2026, an original signed portrait in the expressionist style, measuring 41 by 30 cm.
Description from the seller
Jane Doe 6 reduces the human figure to an intimate arrangement of limbs, posture and gesture. The subject appears folded inward, occupying a compressed pictorial space where the boundaries between body, furniture and surrounding environment become deliberately indistinct.
Palmieri works with a warm, restrained palette of burnt sienna, ochre, umber and muted flesh tones. Broad passages of paint are interrupted by darker linear gestures, allowing the figure to emerge gradually from the wooden ground. The absence of a clearly defined face removes individual identity and shifts attention towards the physical language of the body.
There is a quiet vulnerability to the composition. The closed posture suggests withdrawal and introspection, while the limited space intensifies the sense of privacy. Rather than presenting the body as an idealised form, Palmieri allows it to remain tangible, imperfect and immediate.
Jane Doe 6 demonstrates the artist’s continued interest in the figure as a psychological subject, using economy of colour and expressive mark making to evoke an atmosphere of stillness and quiet tension.
—
Originally trained in architecture and interior design, Palmieri brings a unique sensitivity to painting, where structure gives way to intuition. Working exclusively in oil, he builds and disrupts his surfaces with natural pigments, revealing hidden layers that mirror the complexity of memory, identity and the subconscious.
Entirely self taught, his work quickly attracted critical attention, culminating in his selection for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London just eight months after beginning his painting practice.
His portraits occupy a compelling space between observation and psychological enquiry, where each brushstroke becomes part of an evolving conversation between material, emotion and the human condition.
