Stefano Nurra - La finestra del viaggio

In this work, the artist reinterprets the maritime theme by fusing marked experimentation with material with a hypnotic visual structure. The surface of the canvas is entirely traversed by horizontal cords of intense blue painting, a dense and almost pleated texture that evokes the rhythm and frequency of waves in the open sea.
At the center of the composition, there opens an inset within the painting: a recessed square, delineated by strongly raised and sculptural edges, that breaks the continuous pattern of blue. This “space in the sea,” painted in dark and deep tones, acts as a true window or an optical chamber focused on the narrative element of the work.
Inside the window lies the micro-figuration of a classic wooden motorboat (Riva style), meticulously detailed. The small vessel splits the dark water, creating a stark and evocative contrast between the calculated symmetry of the surrounding blue texture, the depth of the frame, and the iconic elegance of the subject. The work thus plays with the boundary between the almost architectural relief of the environment and the intimacy of the detail, transforming navigation into an experience of solitude, style, and pure contemplation.
