Description from the seller
Alphonse Daudet - Complete Illustrated Works - 20/20 volumes - 1929/1931
Magnificent complete set in 20 volumes of the Complete Illustrated Works by Alphonse Daudet, published in the prestigious “Édition ne varietur” by Librairie de France (Paris) between 1929 and 1931.
Limited Edition: Numbered copy (No. 1,146), part of the standard paper print run.
Exceptional Condition: Extremely rare for a collection approaching a century old; several volumes still have their pages uncut, a clear sign that the books have never been read and have remained perfectly preserved from handling and light.
Binding: Very handsome period half-leather binding (chagrin/basane) with raised bands, adorned with gilt compartments and titles.
Elegant alternating brick-red and beige tones on the spines. Top edges gilt.
Illustrations: A reference edition richly illustrated with full-page plates (in color and in black) as well as in-text illustrations by major artists of the interwar period.
It also includes valuable bibliographical notes on the original editions for each work.
A magnificent set, ideal for a bibliophile or to elegantly decorate a collector’s library.
