Antique oval wall mirror with richly gilded bronze/brass ornament – mascaron – ca. 1930-1950

A particularly decorative antique oval wall mirror with an elegant, richly worked metal frame. A atmospheric object that immediately evokes the grandeur of a classical European interior.

The mirror has a slender oval shape in which the mirror glass remains largely visible. Along the upper part there is a beautifully open-worked, gold-colored ornament with curly foliage, flowers and rococo-like motifs.

The absolute focal point is the centrally placed female mascaron: a classical female head surrounded by richly decorated foliage and scrollwork. Such ornamentation harkens back to the French Louis XV- and Louis XVI tradition and was also widely used around the turn of the 19th to 20th century in decorative interior art.

The gold-colored metal ornaments have developed a beautiful patina over the years. In a few places there is a light greenish oxidation visible, which nicely emphasizes the authentic character. The mirror is equipped with a metal chain for immediate wall hanging.

The mirror glass shows clear signs of age, including small spots, scratches and light, localized corrosion marks as shown in the photo.
