URSS Lenin - Manifesto sovietico – Propaganda Lenin e la Pace - 1960s

Impressive and rare political manifesto dedicated to Lenin and the Soviet Union’s international policy of peace.

Note: This is a later edition from the period, printed between the late 1960s and the early 1970s.

The original composition was created in 1964 by the Soviet artist Boris Berezovskij; a subsequent offset reprint is documented in 1969. The present specimen bears at the bottom the inscription “Edizioni Stampa Art – Roma,” traceable to an Italian edition of the time.

The manifesto depicts Vladimir Lenin during a passionate speech before a vast crowd. Around his figure appears the word “peace” translated into numerous languages, including Italian, English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Finnish, Turkish, and Arabic: a striking graphic choice intended to convey a universal message.

In the red lower panel is printed in Russian a famous phrase attributed to Lenin:

“Our policy of peace is approved by the vast majority of the Earth’s population.”

The graphic construction is extraordinary, based on a strong contrast between black, white, and red. The monumental figure of Lenin, viewed from below and isolated by a definite white outline, emerges with great power from the dense photographic background of the crowd. The result is a composition of strong impact, close to constructivist photomontage and to the best tradition of Soviet political graphics.

Although it is a later edition, it is a true analog-era print, produced many decades before modern digital reproductions. The offset printing and traditional photomechanical processes give the surface, the halftones, and the color fields characteristics very different from today’s prints produced from digital files.

It is therefore not a modern home reproduction or a recent print, but a historical poster with paper, inks, chromatic rendering and typographic technique coherent with the period. The vintage editions of this subject are increasingly difficult to find and are particularly sought after by collectors of Soviet graphics, political propaganda, photomontage, constructivism, and 20th-century history.

Normal signs of time are present, light folds, waviness, and small marks compatible with age and the nature of the paper, clearly visible in the photographs.
