Description from the seller
The Hour Before Heaven
Roberto Cafarotti, 2026, oil on canvas 70x50 cm
In a landscape suspended between wakefulness and dream, the souls meet in the silent waiting that precedes Paradise. An elderly man, wrapped in white garments, sits contemplatively on the edge of a tub whose tiles are deep blue, while around him objects of earthly life float (watches, shoes, books, bags) like fragments of memory that do not yet wish to dissolve.
In the background, a colorful village climbs the green hills, framed by snowy mountains and a sun that is golden and incredibly close, yet never fully descends. A shell-shaped boat, ready to depart, and a solitary figure seated farther away suggest that the voyage is imminent, but not yet begun.
It is the fragile hour in which time stretches, the things of the world still surface, and the souls remain listening, waiting to be called.
