It is thus a very early second impression from the original publication year, shortly after the first printing.
The Man Within was Greene's first published novel and the book that marked the start of his career as a novelist. The original first edition consisted of only about 2,500 copies.

Condition
For a book almost a hundred years old, the text block has fared reasonably well. The pages show typical age-toning and, locally, light spotting/marks.
The original black cloth binding shows clear signs of use and aging: wear and soiling of the boards, wear to the corners and edges, and fraying/damage, especially at the head of the spine. The gold lettering on the spine is still clearly legible. No dust jacket present.
