Description from the seller
Graham Greene – The Man Within – William Heinemann – 1929 – early second impression
Early edition of The Man Within, the debut novel by the famous British writer Graham Greene (1904–1991), published by William Heinemann Ltd., London.
This edition appeared in June 1929, the same month as the first edition. The copyright page explicitly states:
First Published, June 1929
New Impression, June 1929
It is thus a very early second impression from the original publication year, shortly after the first printing.
The Man Within was Greene's first published novel and the book that marked the start of his career as a novelist. The original first edition consisted of only about 2,500 copies.
The book comprises 354 numbered pages and is bound in the original black cloth publisher's binding, with the title The Man Within, the name Graham Greene, and Heinemann in gold on the spine. The contents are divided into three parts.
