A Little Piece of History
José Luis Campos, Spanish Visual Artist. Born in 1948 in Galicia. Graduate of the Panamerican Institute of Art in 1974 (Buenos Aires-Argentina). Dedicated to painting from a very early age. However, only in 2020 did he venture into sculpture under the guidance of the renowned Málaga sculptor Virgilio Rodríguez. He developed techniques and concepts with recyclable materials in most works, recreating an atmosphere that captivates through the concept developed, in a constant search to find the balance between the real and the imaginable. He tends to depict in his works a peaceful line with certain details.
In his paintings he pays close attention to a reduced palette to render a uniform work with few details. A lover of the pre-Columbian cultures of South America, particularly Peru, he has developed there some years ago a mixed Indigenous/Abstract technique that currently enjoys wide acceptance among collectors. His works in general have been acquired by collectors in several countries such as: USA, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Ireland, Austria, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, England, China. He also has more than 25 solo and group exhibitions internationally, as well as honorary diplomas, nominations, awards and recognitions, art books, press and television coverage. For example the book “Stories of Painters” by the prominent Málaga writer Joaquín Palmerola, the Itaca art book published in Soria, Spain, contemporary art at the 2003 Seville Art Fair among others. José Luis Campos signs his paintings by hand on the front and back of the work in addition to delivering an authenticity certificate to the buyer. It is almost a challenge to describe this multifaceted artist, as he prefers viewers form their own conclusions about his work. For Campos, a work is a struggle between the artist and the canvas; you know where you begin, but never where you end.
