Description
Decorative centerpiece / tazza in Empire Revival style, consisting of a richly cut glass cup on a delicately worked brass-colored foot.
The foot is formed by four mythological dolphins or sea dragons, a classic decorative motif that is common within the Empire and Neoclassical vocabularies.
Between the bowl and the base lies a red-and-white veined natural stone accent.
The glass bowl features an extensive geometric cut pattern with, among others, star, fan, and diamond motifs.
Maker, country of origin and exact age are unknown; no marks have been found. It is presumably a 20th-century historizing decorative piece.
In an identical model there is a pierced metal decorative gallery around the upper edge. This is missing from this specimen.
