Description from the seller
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to burst forth in a free and instinctive surge. Then the gaze lingers — and gradually discovers a more complex world, crossed by moving shapes, unforeseen encounters and surprising balances. Nothing is fixed. The work evolves constantly depending on the distance, the light and the time spent before it.
In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Possible silhouettes surface, depths are suggested, never fixed. The gaze is invited, set in motion. Seeing becomes an active, almost physical experience.
But beyond their immediate energy, Ralf Altrieth's works settle durably in space. They settle by their density. By their presence. And by this rare capacity to transform the space in which they take place.

CRITIQUE ET PRESSE:
"In this sense, the pictorial poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childish chant. From the crucible of improvisation he conjures a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses."
— Dr Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director
