Oil on canvas-mounted hardboard in an original profiled wooden frame; overall 50 × 41 × 5 cm with the image measuring 41 × 32 cm, country of origin USA, materials Holz and Segeltuch, condition good with minor signs of aging, estimated period 1990–2000.
Description from the seller
On offer is a masterfully realized floral still life from the vintage era. The work shows a colorful bouquet of summer flowers, masterfully rendered in a relief-like impasto spatula technique. The thick paint application gives the blossoms a tangible, three-dimensional texture. The painting is housed in its original period manufacturing frame (rear serial number 4484). A wonderful collectible for mid-century and vintage interiors.
Noteworthy is the craftsmanship: the unknown artist worked with a pronounced impasto spatula technique. The oil paint was applied in a relief-like, thick manner, resulting in the petals having an almost three-dimensional texture. The painting supports a period-typical hardboard, front-side canvas-coated or textured-primed to imitate the classic fabric texture. In the area of the dense, light pigments, the painting shows natural, fine craquelure (drying cracks), which underscores the authenticity of the aged oil medium.
Artist: hand-signed with “Sullivan” (bottom right, with distinctive final stroke)
Title of the artwork: Lush Summer Flower Bouquet in a Ball Vase
Technique: Oil on canvas-coated hardboard (Masonite)
Period: approx. 1970s / 1980s
Condition: Good original condition with natural craquelure formation (drying cracks) in the thick pigments. The era-typical wooden frame has been cosmetically and unobtrusively restored at a tiny spot on the outer edge.
Sale with frame: Yes, original profiled wooden frame
Overall dimensions: 50 x 41 x 5 cm (image dimensions: 41 x 32 cm)
Special features: On the back stamped with the original frame manufacturer number 4484.
