The book follows the journeys of six different authors, artists and explorers who traveled through Morocco from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. It highlights their travel impressions and artistic vision of the country, which at the time was known in Europe as the "Extrême-Occident" (the Far West of the Islamic world).

The focus is on the transitional period from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century, with journeys along Morocco's royal cities (such as Fez and Marrakech) to the distant, mysterious frontiers of the Sahara.

An attempt is made to reveal the "mysterious and enchanting face" of historic Morocco through the eyes of these early Western travelers.

Guy Joubert is in the photography world best known for his extensive, historically significant private collection of early photographs of Morocco and North Africa from 1870 to 1939. His collection has been shown in major exhibitions, such as at the Maison de la Photographie Robert Doisneau.

One edge of the prints has a very light discoloration at the margins, not on the photographs themselves.
