Description from the seller
Rare Night Lamp "Veilleuse" Art Deco with Veglia Clock – AFC (Adolf Frankau & Co.) – 1929
Splendid and exceptional table lamp combined with integrated clock (veilleuse), a perfect high-level design example from the late 1920s. The object boasts an extraordinary documented history and traceability directly impressed on the metal, elements that make it a unique collectible piece.
The base and the naturalistic-curved arm feature the factory dát seal of the famous manufactory Adolf Frankau & Co. (AFC), topped by the characteristic stylized heraldic crown, a symbol of exceptional production quality.
On the edge of the base is cold-impressed the exact date "21 - 5 - 29" (May 21, 1929). Next to the date, there is a refined hand-engraved monogram with intertwined initials "M.F.", testifying to an important private gift or commission from the period.
At the center of the mounting is set a mechanical clock with an original dial signed "Veglia" (historic brand of Fratelli Borletti of Milan, whose name was coined by Gabriele D'Annunzio). The mechanism is original, contemporary, and perfectly functioning (shows only a small and normal delay due to age, easily adjustable from the back).
The diffuser is a satin-frosted glass globe, finely decorated with maple leaf motifs in burgundy red tones, intact and without flaws.
The piece has intentionally been kept with its original patina of the time, free of aggressive polishing, allowing the warmth of brass to show and preserving the chiaroscuro that makes the engravings legible. For practical use and home safety, the electrical system (cable and switch) has been modernized and the lamp is ready to be lit. A piece of immense charm, ideal for collectors of vintage lighting and Liberty/Deco objects.
