Description from the seller
Attractive oil on canvas belonging to the Spanish school of the 20th century, depicting an elegant floral still life featuring a abundant bouquet of roses arranged in a blue vase.
The composition centers around the intense contrast between roses in different shades of red, pink, and carmine and the bright blue of the container. The artist distributes the flowers in what appears to be an unforced manner, combining fully open roses with others still in bud and abundant foliage, achieving a balanced composition with a sense of movement.
Especially interesting is the arrangement of several petals and fallen flowers on the surface, a device that breaks the verticality of the bouquet and visually extends the composition toward the foreground. The large rose located in the lower right area takes on special prominence and adds depth to the whole.
The background has been treated in a deliberately sober way, through neutral tones and a bluish curtain that falls along the left side. This absence of accessory elements allows the viewer to concentrate all attention on the flowers and enhances the chromatic intensity of the set.
From a technical point of view, a loose and visible brushstroke stands out, particularly noticeable on the petals and leaves. The modeling is achieved mainly through chromatic variations, without recourse to an overly defined line drawing, giving the roses a fresh and painterly appearance. The soft lighting allows differentiation of the different volumes and contributes to the sense of depth.
The work is part of the important Spanish tradition of flower painting and still life, reinterpreted here from a sensibility typical of the 20th century, with a freer execution and special attention to color.
In the lower right corner there is a signature, whose reading does not allow establishing with sufficient certainty the identity of the artist. For this reason, the work is prudently cataloged as Spanish School of the 20th century, illegible signature.
Condition report
The work shows a condition in line with its age, possibly displaying normal signs derived from the passage of time.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and it is recommended to examine them carefully to assess the specific condition before placing a bid.
The work is sold and will be shipped without a frame.
Overall, it is an attractive floral still life of the Spanish school of the 20th century, especially interesting for the chromatic richness of the roses, the contrast between pink tones and the intense blue of the vase, and the looseness of its execution. A composition of notable decorative presence that reinterprets the tradition of the floral still life through a pictorial language characteristic of the 20th century.
