Paulo Gaspar (1964) - Forró em Jeri

Superb original oil painting on canvas created in 2004 by the eminent Brazilian visual artist Paulo Gaspar, from Parnaíba (Piauí).

Entitled on the back "Forró em Jeri", this vibrant work perfectly captures the festive essence and energy of a Forró ball (traditional dance of the Brazilian Northeast) in Jericoacoara ("Jeri"), the famous coastal village of Ceará.

Through its modern figurative style tinged with naïve art and local expressionism, Gaspar depicts a dense crowd of couples dancing in a fusion-like manner to the rhythm of traditional musicians (accordionist visible in the background). The composition is distinguished by dark, pronounced outlines, great dynamism of the moving bodies, and a splendid warm chromatic palette that contrasts with a nocturnal purple background.
