Description from the seller

Vintage Balinese Hand-Carved Macassar Ebony Wood Sculpture - Art Deco Style, ca. 1960s

An exquisite mid-20th-century Balinese elongated wood carving, hand-sculpted from a single block of authentic Macassar Ebony (Diospyros celebica).
This piece features a beautiful contrast of dark chocolate and reddish-brown grain patterns, characteristic of premium Indonesian hardwood.

Stylistically originating from the famous carving village of Mas (Bali), the sculpture exemplifies the Balinese Art Deco movement that emerged in the mid-1900s.
It depicts two stylized, fluid figures—likely representing a romantic or spiritual scene from Hindu mythology (such as the deities Rama and Sita or Dewi Ratih)—smoothly integrated into an elongated, organic form rising from a beautifully detailed lotus petal base (Padmasana).
The primary figure wears an ornate traditional necklace (Badong) and a detailed crown, showing exceptional craftsmanship.

The reverse side shows a smooth, partially flattened finish typical of the era, retaining a vintage paper customs/export stamp or tax seal, highlighting its historical journey as a collector's export item.
The underside remains raw and unpolished, showcasing the genuine chiseling work and the natural sapwood transitions without a maker's signature, pointing to a high-quality regional master workshop production.

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful aged patina.
The wood retains its original smooth, hand-buffed wax finish. No structural cracks, deep fractures, or major restorations are present. Minor natural dryness and light dust accumulation in the deep crevices of the relief, confirming its untouched and authentic state.

Specifications:
- Material: Solid Macassar Ebony Wood (heavy, dense wood that sinks in water)
- Origin: Mas, Bali, Indonesia
- Period: ca. 1950s - 1970s
- Motif: Stylized Mythological Figures on Lotus Base

The product will be professionally packed and sent safely to your address by local post.
