Description from the seller
Large Vintage Chinese Hand-Carved Wood Sculpture - Sleeping Girl on Watermelon - 39 cm
An oversized, beautifully detailed vintage Chinese polychrome wood carving depicting a sleeping child (girl) resting peacefully on a large green watermelon/melon.
In Chinese folklore, these "Good Luck" sleeping children are traditional symbols of abundance, wealth, and domestic harmony.
Carved from a single solid block of wood (likely camphor or teak), this piece features a serene facial expression, finely incised lines detailing the hair buns (niutou style), and a traditional Dudou apron with an intricately carved bow on the back.
The base is left unfinished, clearly showcasing the authentic, raw wood grain and hand-carved tool marks, confirming this is not a resin reproduction.
Given its impressive size of nearly 40 cm, this is a scarce mid-to-large-scale version, making it a highly desirable statement piece for collectors of Asian art and oriental interior design.
