The artist uses artistic prints applied directly onto the canvases as a starting point, subsequently intervened manually through painting, relief construction and the creation of different textures. The gypsum-based paste allows the creation of three-dimensional elements and irregular surfaces, while the acrylic paints and the gold and silver metallic sprays add depth, luminosity and contrast.
Lines, geometric shapes and graphic interventions are overlaid on the images, causing the figure to progressively integrate into the abstract field. The result is a contemporary composition that combines matter, color, geometry and figurative representation.
The final varnish finish protects the surface and enhances the relationship between the different textures and levels of gloss in the work.
The diptych was conceived as an inseparable set, in which the two pieces establish a visual dialogue between the face and the gaze, representing different dimensions of identity and female expression.
Artist biography
Ximuto Lopes is a contemporary artist who develops a visual language marked by the dialogue between the human figure, geometric abstraction, and the exploration of matter.
Her artistic process is characterized by the combination of different techniques and materials, creating mixed-media works where painting, texture, relief, geometric forms and figurative elements coexist in one composition.
The artist works particularly with contrasts between smooth and textured surfaces, lines and geometric shapes, as well as with metallic tones that bring luminosity and depth to her works. The female figure often appears as a central element, exploring themes related to identity, strength, emotion, introspection and expression.
Her approach seeks to transform figurative elements into contemporary compositions, fragmenting and reconstructing the image through layers, matter and manual interventions.
Based in Portugal, Ximuto Lopes pursues her artistic career independently, dedicating herself to creating original works for collectors and appreciators of contemporary art.
