Yamila Velázquez (Las Tunas, Cuba, 1993) is a contemporary artist who uses tools of digital intelligence, currently living and working in Alicante, Spain. Owner and partner of a company dedicated to the sale, representation and development of artists and artworks, Velázquez combines her business vision with deep artistic sensibility.
This young Cuban talent has established herself in the field of digital art, using contemporary media to explore themes related to nature, landscape and the intimate relationship between woman and her environment. Her works subtly and powerfully address beauty, love, sensuality and feminine delicacy, always framed in enveloping, romantic and refined atmospheres.
With a vibrant and expressive aesthetic, Yamila Velázquez manages to fuse classical influences with a modern language, resulting in versatile, fresh and profoundly evocative works. This artistic diptych combines traditional religious iconography with an aesthetic inspired by Art Deco and, fundamentally, by the Japanese technique of Kintsugi. Both figures, Jesus Christ on the left in a blessing pose and Archangel Michael on the right defeating the dragon, are depicted with a porcelain blue-and-white Delft-style appearance, meticulously repaired with gold veins. The cracks on the surface of the figures are not hidden but highlighted in gold, symbolizing that beauty and the history of an object can arise from its fractures. The intricate gold patterns in the backgrounds, evoking the Art Deco style, serve to contrast with the broken porcelain texture, accentuating the theme of repaired fragility.
