Rare work by the Nobel Prize-winning painter Dario Fo (Sangiano, March 24, 1926 – Milan, October 13, 2016) painted in mixed media on paper applied to a wooden panel. The frame is original from the period. The work was exhibited in 2012 at the Milan Palazzo Reale exhibition "Lazzi sberleffi e dipinti". The work is registered in the Dario Fo archive. Dario Luigi Angelo Fo (Sangiano, March 24, 1926 – Milan, October 13, 2016) was an Italian playwright, actor, director, writer, illustrator, painter, set designer and activist.
Famous for his plays of political and social satire and for his left-wing political commitment, with his wife Franca Rame he was among the leaders of Militant Red Aid. He was the author of theatrical performances that employ the comic devices of Italian Commedia dell'arte and that have been successfully performed worldwide. As an actor, director, writer, set designer, costume designer and impresario of his own company, Fo was a true all-around man of the theatre.
In 1997 he won the Nobel Prize in Literature with the following motivation:
«following the tradition of medieval minstrels, he ridicules power, restoring dignity to the oppressed.»
