Max Hervé (born 1926) was an artist who had long been exploring the boundaries of so-called contemporary art. When asked to introduce himself, he wrote the following: "The big question for a painter at the end of this century, and certainly for a painter of space, is how to escape this century, its dogmatic constraints, the dust of the end of a globalized era in all its cyclonic force of a self-blocking market. It seems no longer possible for me to define my identity on the basis of a traditional curriculum vitae, or to make use of its satisfying elements that belong not only in evaluative and thinking systems that come from this or the previous century and that in any case no longer correspond to the seed of future horizons."

This painting is lower-right signed by the French artist Max Hervé. However there are few detailed biographical data documented about him. The most well-known facts about his life and career are: Birth: He was born in 1926 in France. Membership: He was an acknowledged member of the prestigious French artists’ association Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Style: Hervé worked mainly in a French-impressionist style. His oeuvre largely consists of seascapes, scenes with sailing boats, nudes and sun-drenched terraced gardens with company, as in this work. Recognition: In July 1992 he received the official French military title Peintre des armées (specifically within the category Peintre de l'air). Additionally, in the 1970s and 1980s he was co-organizer of the Biennale de peinture in the French city Langres.
