Without sight we do not notice the passage of time; sounds, smells, and touch do not give us the perception of time. Observing the decay of nature, the metamorphosis of a face, this makes us mortal! In darkness we sense the scent of a rose, the sting of its thorns, but we do not realize that it is dying. Its petals fall, marking the time that flows. Beauty has no soul and knows no eternity.
