Icarus is not depicted at the moment of the fall, but in what remains after.
His wings have lost their shape and now seem a living matter, dark and indistinct, almost part of his own body.
He holds them to himself as something he still cannot let go.
Thus flight is no longer merely a gesture upward, but something that continues to live even after the fall.
The wings become the sign of a desire that has changed form, but has not disappeared.
