Rare vintage Columbus Roll Globe with Haardt Earth Caliper, a geographical measuring instrument designed by Robert Haardt.
The globe is implemented as a so-called Roll Globe: the globe is freely movable and can be rolled in different directions. The wooden cross-shaped base features an integrated measuring scale, allowing geographical distances on the globe to be determined.
On the wooden base is clearly visible the original inscription:
“HAARDT-ERDMESSER FÜR WELT IM RAUM – ROLLGLOBUS”
The globe shows a detailed historical map view with countries, cities, geographical names, meridians, latitudes and sea routes. The cartographic image provides an interesting view of the cartography from the period when the globe was manufactured.
