Description from the seller
When the gaze turns inward.
Internal marks a turning point in Lionel Nemeth's exploration of gaze and the body. Here, the body does not seek to be seen from the outside. It protects itself, folds in on itself. Hands frame the face, eyes closed. The figure withdraws from the external world to enter the private landscape of thought.
What is there when we look inward rather than outward? What is the link between the body and the self it inhabits?
Through his series, Nemeth explores the different facets of the gaze: from non-look to the unconscious of being seen, from abandonment to gradual withdrawal. Internal adds a new dimension to this inquiry: that of interiority, of the silent conversation between the body and itself. The figure is both observer and observed.
Looking at Internal is to penetrate a sacred space, that of the inside. It is to acknowledge that certain depths are not meant to be shared.
Technical singularity:
Nemeth is one of the few artists in the world to develop the art of figurative thread in a rectangular format, pushing the conceptual and technical boundaries of the medium.
