Description from the seller
Title: Mid-Century Brutalist Terracotta Sculpture – Studio SIBON (Netherlands) – H 29 cm.
Beautiful and characterful mid-century modern sculpture of a pensive figure, crafted by the renowned Netherlands pottery studio SIBON (active mid-20th century). The piece is clearly marked on the back with the original factory stamp.
This particular sculpture stands out due to its exceptionally high-quality craftsmanship, which is significantly more refined than the average series production from this era. The anatomical details of the hands and feet have been carved into the clay with incredible precision. The individual knuckles, nails, and tendons are razor-sharp and have not been blurred or filled in by the glazing process. The design beautifully merges brutalist aesthetics with strong tribal/African art influences. The dark, patinated finish gives the terracotta clay the deep, rich appearance of bronze or aged hardwood. A stunning collector's item that fits perfectly into modern or eclectic interiors.
