Description
TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of seven. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.

Central is the tension between control and temptation, two forces that constantly strive for primacy.

Each work consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, hand-arranged into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The placing requires patience and precision; the repetition that arises evokes the routines with which a life is structured, whether diabetes is involved or not.

A plexiglass lid closes the work, temptation visible but just out of reach.
