Description
TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since age seven. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.
Central is the tension between control and temptation, two forces that continually strive for precedence.
Each work consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, manually arranged into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The placement requires patience and precision; the repetition that emerges evokes the routines by which a life is structured, whether or not diabetes is involved.
A plexiglass cover finishes the piece, temptation visible but just out of reach.
