Corina Dinu - The Other One - XL

I've never believed people are just one thing. We're the version we show at work, the one our mother still sees, the one only a lover ever gets close enough to find — and most days, they don't even recognize each other. I wanted to paint that. Not four different people. One person, maybe, seen through four different doors.
Look long enough and the faces start to blur into each other — a jaw that could belong to any of them, an eye that keeps reappearing like it never really left. I laid heavy olive shadow across some of the cheeks, the way certain parts of ourselves get pushed into shade the longer we wear them. And where the light does land — a cheekbone, a temple, a single point near an eye — I worked metallic gold straight into the paint, because even the parts of us we hide still catch light sometimes, when no one's looking.
I don't know which of these four faces is the real one. I'm not even sure I'm looking at myself, or at the other one — the version I keep almost becoming. That's what I want whoever hangs this to sit with.

The Other One, 2026, acrylic on canvas with metallic accents, image size 94 x 90 cm on a full canvas of 105 x 100 cm, signed lower right, a unique work with no edition.
