AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Albert Gustav Schwartz (1833–1898) – Wanderers

Original 19th-century oil painting on canvas by the German landscape and genre painter Albert Gustav Schwartz (1833–1898).

Entitled “Wanderers”, the painting depicts travellers with pack animals moving along a wooded path through a dramatic mountainous landscape. The composition combines landscape and genre painting, with finely rendered figures, vegetation, rocky formations and atmospheric depth.

Schwartz was a German painter known for landscape and genre scenes. His artistic career included studies at the Berlin Academy as well as an extended period in Italy, whose landscape and artistic traditions influenced his work.

Oil on canvas.
Signed “Gustav Schwartz”.

Painting dimensions: 18.5 × 24.5 cm.
Dimensions including frame: approximately 27 × 33 cm.

The painting is presented in a decorative black and gilt neo-Baroque style wooden frame and is sold with the frame.

The artwork is in good antique condition considering its age, with natural signs of ageing and patina consistent with a 19th-century oil painting. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.
