Magnificent and imposing crater-shaped cachepot in Malicorne art faience, produced by the famous historic Bourg-Joly Malicorne manufactory (founded in 1747). This premium piece features a superb XVIIIth-century-style decoration, fully hand-painted in a blue monochrome on a white background. The body is rhythmically adorned with friezes of lambrequins and hanging floral baskets. The flared neck hosts an elegant frieze of stylized leaves.
Special feature: the two side handles are molded in high relief, depicting delicate profiles of women (faces of sailors). A very handsome display piece, heavy and stable, with superb dimensions (30 cm x 30 cm). Under the plinth are the official painted mark MD by Michel Derouet, the mould form number 163, as well as the painter-ceramist AO monogram.
Condition: Good overall with normal signs of wear. The interior shows limestone deposits associated with historical use with plants.
