A pair of vintage bookends in heavy cast brass, dating to 1970–1980 in Italy, featuring a deer head with hunting motifs such as a rifle and hunting horn, each measuring 18.5 cm high, 10 cm wide and with a 12 cm base depth, with a total weight of about 1.7 kg and in good used condition.
Description from the seller
A pair of vintage bookends in full chalet-style hunting decor, of fine Italian craftsmanship dating back to the period between the 70s and 80s.
The two objects are characterized by a large oval medallion made of heavy cast brass, a manufacturing technique that gives each piece a significant weight and a beautiful three-dimensional rendering of the high-relief details.
At the center of the decorative scene stands out the modeled head of a deer or roe deer, surrounded by classic symbolic elements related to the art of hunting such as a rifle, a hunting horn and woodland foliage ramage, all enclosed by an elegant continuous beaded border.
The solid concealable support base, shaped in an L-form to ensure maximum stability even for the largest and heaviest volumes, is made of a metal sheet firmly anchored to the main casting.
The objects retain the natural time patina, characterized by charming and light signs of original cast brass oxidation that attest to their age, authenticity and historical character without having undergone aggressive chemical polishing interventions.
The bases are intact. The pair of bookends measures for each element a height of 18.5 centimeters, a width of 10 centimeters and a depth of the base of 12 centimeters, for a total weight of 1.7 kilograms, posing as a solid and visually striking furniture accessory, perfect to enrich and enhance a classic library, a professional study or a stately home.
Fast shipping and careful packaging.
