The Brera has that ridiculously good vintage Louis Vuitton shape that manages to look polished without trying too hard. It is structured, compact and just different enough from the bags everyone already knows.

The Damier Ebene canvas keeps it classic while that red Alcantara interior is the little surprise that makes opening it way more fun than it should be. The wide base also gives this smaller bag considerably more usable room than its dimensions suggest.

• Great Vintage Condition
This 1998 Brera presents beautifully for a genuine vintage Louis Vuitton piece. The Damier Ebene canvas retains its rich checkerboard pattern and the structured silhouette remains well defined. Leather handles and trim show normal signs of previous use, while the gold-tone hardware has age-appropriate surface wear.

The red Alcantara interior presents very well overall and the top zipper remains functional.

The Brera is one of those discontinued Louis Vuitton bags that feels increasingly cool precisely because you don’t see it everywhere. Its rigid rectangular construction and short rolled handles give it a very different personality from the softer Speedy and tote silhouettes that later became synonymous with Damier Ebene.

There is also a neat bit of LV history hiding in this one. Louis Vuitton’s Damier pattern traces all the way back to 1888, making it older than the famous Monogram canvas. This particular Brera dates to 1998, and date code VI0928 corresponds to French production in February 1998.

For collectors, the combination of an early production date, discontinued model, structured shape and bold red Alcantara interior makes the Brera much more interesting than its understated exterior initially lets on. It’s vintage LV for somebody who already knows the obvious ones.
