Saint-Aubin French Iron Meteorite - 237 g

I am Pierre ANTONIN (SP-Meteorites), leader of the Saint-Aubin meteorite research project in France since 2018, more info on my website.

Saint Aubin is an iron meteorite, classified Iron IIIAB with a magnificent octahedral structure and many inclusions of troilite and schreibersite.

I specialize in the treatment/restoration of iron meteorites, and since 2019 I have been working on a stabilization process using subcritical fluids (high-pressure/high-temperature dechlorination) that achieves a level of stability never reached before. This meteorite has benefited from this treatment. My clients are private collectors, professionals, and museums such as the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

ADVICE TO COLLECTORS:

PURCHASE: Iron meteorites are prone to degradation by oxidation. Before purchasing, carefully check the surface condition that shows the Widmanstätten pattern. Be vigilant if there are traces of oxides; this can worsen over time. Favor faces without oxidation and without heavy varnish, don't hesitate to zoom in on the photos. For complete meteorites, favor an appearance without pulverulent oxidation or leaks, signs of instability, even surfaces that have retained a natural patina must be dry and healthy. Favor sellers who offer guarantees on the stability of meteorites and after-sales service if needed.

PRESENTATION: All photos are taken in studio with artificial lighting and not retouched to achieve a rendering as close to reality as possible. The scale cube measures 1X1 cm. To achieve the same look at home, I recommend display in a showcase with appropriate white lighting.

STORAGE: Store your iron meteorites in the open air or in a display case with humidity rates not exceeding an average of 50 to 60%. If you are in a very humid region or by the sea, keep your meteorites in airtight boxes with desiccant to protect them from oxidation.

HANDLING: Handle your meteorites preferably with gloves, avoiding touching the revealed faces (apparent structure) which can be contaminated by the acidic and salty sweat on your fingers.
