The work belongs to a period farther back than the artist, among the very few remnants from the 2000s and 2001. It represents a woman immersed in her own thoughts, seated on a table near a window. The brushstrokes are swift and expressive, with characteristic tones from the shadows of backlighting. In the background, the balconies of a building are visible, with clothes hanging that create a daily, urban dimension.

The looks and the naturalness of the pose are always primary.

Jara Marzulli
was born in Bari and graduated from the Bari Art High School and subsequently from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari with top honors, and since 1998 she has been participating in exhibitions and competitions, quickly earning recognitions, awards, and important selections.
Her figurative realism painting style quickly became recognizable, and since 2004 international experiences began through fairs, biennials, and important exhibitions.

Her art grows and tells of a feeling that is at once ecstatic and carnal, made even more incisive and moving by the technical perfection that distinguishes the artist. A lucid and heartrending expressive quality, an indefinable purity that clothes itself in painting, a constant play of displacements, of role exchanges between the artist who paints and the depicted subject.

Numerous are the prestigious Biennales and art exhibitions at which she has exhibited in Italy and abroad, such as in Turkey, at the Art Taipei Fair in Taiwan, China at Red Elation gallery in Hong Kong, at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Dublin, at the Mainz Museum, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and in London.

Jara Marzulli’s figures have intense, direct, frontal gazes. They have the dignity of subjects ready to respond with great immediacy. The characters that almost entirely occupy the canvas space manage to visually represent men, women, girls and boys who seem to recognize the observer as a stranger, sustain their gaze, push them away, and distance themselves to defend the silence of their precious inner world.
