Wooden chess set

A handcrafted figurine chess set from the mid-20th century.
The chess pieces have carved facial features. They consist of recognizable folkloric figures from a crowned king to dwarfs (gnomes) with a pointy hat and beard as pawns. These chess pieces were made in the mid-20th century in woodworking shops in Poland, with each woodcarver having his own style.
The king is 9 cm tall, the pawns are 6 cm high. The chessboard measures 31 x 31 x 6.5 cm.

Houten schaakspel

Een met de hand uitgesneden figuurschaakspel, uit het midden van de 20e eeuw. 
De schaakstukken hebben uitgesneden gelaatstrekken. Ze bestaan uit herkenbare folkloristische figuren van een gekroonde koning tot kabouters (gnomen) met een puntmuts en baard als pionnen. Deze schaakstukken werden in het midden van de 20e eeuw gemaakt in houtwerkplaatsen in Polen. Waarbij elke houtsnijder zijn eigen stijl had. 
De koning heeft een hoogte van 9 cm, de pionnen zijn 6 cm hoog. Het schaskbord is 31 x 31 x 6,5 cm.
