Description from the seller

Rare Safe/Chest Key in Wrought Iron - Piedmont, 18th Century
Splendid and exceptional specimen of a high-security safe or monumental chest key, entirely hand-forged. Piedmontese craftsmanship of a bygone era, dating to the 18th century (late 1700s).
Main features:
Dimensions: total length about 15 cm; weight 148 g.
Grip: Elegant open heart-shaped counterpoised ring. The lower junction features dense, refined heat-forged ornamental punchwork with an anti-slip function.
Shaft (Bar): Female-type with ciphered barrel. It presents a very rare internal geometric hole in the shape of a heart/ace of spades. On the shaft the longitundinal seam line of the sheet riveted hot onto the anvil is clearly visible, an exceptional proof of authenticity and pre-industrial artisanal workmanship.
Map (Comb): Complex three-dimensional mechanisms with a central cutout combined with an inverted "T", four parallel lower teeth clearly delineated and deep longitudinal grooves on the side profiles, typical of fixed-combination mechanisms of period safes.
Object in magnificent preservation, solid and with a splendid natural and original dark patina. A piece of the highest caliber for demanding collectors.
