Description from the seller
A workshop corner bathed in the pale light of a milky window, flooded with stacks of books and art monographs. Squatting, back to the viewer on the parquet, a brunette woman with a bun, completely nude, leafs through a large open volume of reproductions — cubist figures and portraits in vivid colors. On the right, framed, a Venus rising from the waters in the Renaissance manner. Semiotically, the painting is a meditation on representation: the real, living, carnal body leans over the painted bodies, from the classical Venus to modern deconstructions — a silent dialogue between the model and the history of art that has always depicted her. The flesh-toned skin contrasts with the browns of the bindings and the gray of the wall; rich impasto on the flesh, the workshop texture in the grand tradition of the female nude.
