Artist Biography:
Former tagger in the 1990s, Enigme09 discovered photomontage in 2009. The painter Jacques Monory reinforced him in the path he chose by suggesting a poetic approach to his art.
His compositions assemble elements drawn from the world of advertising or popular culture and others belonging to the corpus of the History of Art. Their blend is sharp, detonating, surprising, disturbing, but also invites reflection on the status of images and on a possible hierarchy of values between them.
The artist manages to give meaning to familiar signs, drained of all content due to their overpresence. But, of course, this meaning is, most often, very distant from their original signified. Enigme09 sums up his artistic credo in a brisk formula: "give a voice to images to open our eyes."
