The works arise from an artisanal and experimental process that makes each panel unique. The surface is carefully prepared and enriched with selected natural papers and mineral insertions, creating an irregular, three-dimensional base rich in texture that enhances the panel’s structure. This surface is subsequently worked in an uneven way using mixed media, in which watercolour pencils play a central role, creating stratifications, transparencies, and contrasts in dialogue with the underlying material. This series of works is made even more special by a particular technique developed by the artist: applying pencil shavings directly onto the panel. These color fragments are integrated into the surface, creating reliefs, chromatic vibrations, and an intense tactile quality that makes each panel unrepeatable. In this way, there is an balance between technical control and spontaneity, marking the artist’s transition from a consolidated digital practice to a more tactile, artisanal, and deeply material approach.

Giulia Piras begins her studies at the Faculty of Biological Sciences due to her interest in naturalist themes. However, she chooses to change direction toward the Academy of Fine Arts, where she had the opportunity to deepen and practice her passion for scientific illustration.
She continues her studies specializing in Illustration at ISIA Urbino. Today she lives in the Marchigian countryside in Italy, surrounded by the Apennines, oak forests, and blooming meadows. She collaborates with publishers, magazines, companies, and advertising agencies.
She was selected for the Renner Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2021 she won the competition “Digital Inclusion” organized by Posterheroes. In 2025 she was selected for the Annual of Image Authors and for the BRAW (Bologna Children’s Book Award) Amazing Bookshelf.
