Pair of Italian majolica parade plates (2) - Faenza - Neo-Renaissance style - Second half of the 20th century
Brilliant pair of hand-painted Italian majolica wall plates (piatti da pompa), produced in the rich and centuries-old ceramic tradition of Faenza.
These plates are a beautiful example of the Neo-Renaissance style, in which classical 15th- and 16th-century techniques and décors have been revived.

Both plates depict figures in historical Renaissance clothing (a nobleman and a noblewoman), shown in the characteristic three-quarter and profile views.
The iconic 'Pavona' edge: the wide rims are masterfully decorated with the world-famous peacock feather motif (decoro a penna di pavone), one of the most sought-after and traditional decors from Faenza.
