Rare Antique Moro Kris / Kalis - 13 Luk Curved Blade - Sulu / Mindanao, Philippines - circa 1900
DESCRIPTION:
Offered: a beautiful and authentic antique Moro Kris, locally known as Kalis. The iconic weapon and status symbol of the Moro warriors from the Sulu archipelago and Mindanao.
This is not a modern tourist replica, but an authentic utilitarian piece with a beautifully weathered patina.
Details:
• Blade: Nicely forged 13 luk (13 waves) blade with pronounced gangya. Clear forging marks and a lovely dark aged patina. The blade shows light age spotting appropriate to its age, underscoring authenticity.
• Handle: Traditional wooden grip in the classic 'kakatoe-kop' form.
• Fitted with a grip wrapped in rattan and aluminum bands, a distinctive repair/reinforcement from the early 20th century.
• Sheath: Original two-piece warangka sheath made of hardwood with a deep, dark patina.
A very decorative and historical piece with a lot of character, perfect for the advanced collector of Philippine and Southeast Asian weapons.
Condition: In good antique condition given the age. The blade is solid, the sheath closes well. Light wear and pitting on the steel as expected for a piece of this age. See photos for an accurate impression of condition.
