Expressive ceramic vase by Helmut Schäffenacker in handcraft Studiokeramik, with a flat near-circular body, a prominent flower relief on the front, a narrow rectangular curved top opening, warm brown to rust glazes, and a height of 27 cm, made in Germany in 1960–1970 and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Expressive ceramic vase by Helmut Schäffenacker, shaped by the characteristic combination of plastic form and lively glaze effect.
The flat, almost circular body appears decidedly sculptural. On the front, a large relief-like blossom with long, dynamically arranged leaves stands out from the warm brown to rust-colored base. The lighter glaze inside the relief creates a striking contrast and underlines the craftsmanship of the surface.
Particularly unusual is the narrow, rectangular-rounded opening at the top, through which the object, despite its almost sculptural appearance, functions as a vase. The back is deliberately understated and reveals the craftsmanship of the ceramic.
A striking example of German studio ceramics with a strong Mid-Century character and a design that sits between vase, relief, and ceramic sculpture.
Artist: Helmut Schäffenacker
Material: ceramic / stoneware
