Description from the seller
Oliver Plehn (Germany, 1970)
Gorillas XXL - Diptych – 2026
Oil on acrylic ground on canvas
2 works, each 100 × 81 cm
This diptych presents two large apes seated, clinging to a rope that runs through the composition. The scene is reduced to the essential: the animal, the gesture and a space barely suggested. That formal simplicity shifts all attention to the presence of the figures, turning them into portraits with an intense psychological charge.
Although inspired by the animal world, the two works transcend naturalistic representation. Oliver Plehn uses the primate as a reflection of the human condition, exploring concepts such as intelligence, consciousness, vulnerability and the evolutionary bond we share with other species. The silent tension between the two figures invites the viewer to establish a dialogue between them and to project their own interpretation.
The combination of oil on a background of acrylic, together with a restrained palette of greys, blacks and warm tones, reinforces the atmosphere of stillness and emotional depth that characterizes the artist's work.
Each canvas measures 100 × 81 cm and is signed by Oliver Plehn. The diptych is delivered with a certificate of authenticity. To guarantee safe transport, both works will be carefully shipped rolled in a rigid and sturdy tube.
