Vasco - I am

I AM is created through a process developed as part of my artistic practice. I first paint directly onto glass using acrylic paint. The transparent surface allows the paint to move, separate and form organic structures that cannot be completely controlled.

Once the original composition is finished, I photograph the work in high resolution. The resulting image is then produced as a high-quality Fine Art Print, preserving the smallest structures, contrasts and traces of the original painting.

For me, this process is important because it exists somewhere between painting and photography, between intention and accident. I begin the work, but at a certain point I allow the material itself to participate in its creation.

I AM is about existence before definition.
We spend much of our lives answering the question “Who am I?” with names, professions, relationships, memories, successes, failures and expectations. We build an identity from everything that has happened to us.
But underneath all of this, something remains.
I am.
The figure in the work appears almost transparent, as if the exterior has disappeared and only an inner network of life remains. It can resemble veins, roots, nerves or branches. For me, these structures are not meant to describe the human body anatomically. They represent life itself — something moving through us that cannot be completely explained or controlled.
The work asks a simple question:
What remains when everything I believe myself to be is taken away?
Perhaps there is no final answer.
Perhaps the answer is simply:
I AM.
