Description from the seller

About the work

The Emerald Queen is a female portrait with a strong visual presence, in which GYL Durand unfolds a refined universe blending facial realism, ornamental richness, and Art Nouveau inspiration.
At the center of the composition appears a woman with flaming red hair, whose direct and enigmatic gaze immediately attracts the viewer. Her face, treated with finesse and realism, contrasts with the extraordinary decorative richness of the costume and the background.
Emerald-green, gold, brown and copper tones structure the entire composition. The jewelry, diadem, stones, and ornamental motifs give the character a timeless sovereign air.
The background, teeming with stylized flowers, spirals, arabesques, and organic forms, reinforces the symbolist dimension of the work and evokes the decorative world of Art Nouveau.
The garment, richly worked with golden motifs and scrolls, extends the decorative motif graphically and creates a remarkable unity between the figure and its surroundings.
The canvas thus plays on a particularly seductive contrast between the almost intimate realism of the face and the decorative exuberance of the whole.
