Description from the seller
Gérald Marin (born in 1975) is a French painter, illustrator, draughtsman and lithographer. Deeply attached to the maritime world, he has developed a style strongly influenced by Impressionism, characterised by visible brushwork, a sensitive approach to light and particular attention to variations in colour.
Beach scenes occupy a central place in his work. Marin depicts moments of everyday life by the sea, with bathers, families, colourful parasols and sailing boats. Rather than focusing on meticulous description, he gives priority to sensation, light and atmosphere, creating compositions that invite relaxation and contemplation.
This work, entitled Balneary Serenity, is fully representative of this approach. It depicts a lively beach beneath a bright sky, with numerous figures gathered along the shoreline, colourful parasols and a multitude of sailing boats stretching towards the horizon. The French flag further reinforces the evocation of an elegant French seaside resort.
The composition is structured around a broad expanse of sand that naturally leads the eye towards the sea and the horizon. The luminous blues of the sky and water contrast with sandy tones, colourful parasols and vivid touches in the clothing and vegetation. The visible, expressive brushwork brings movement to the scene while preserving its peaceful atmosphere.
The painting brings together the defining qualities of Gérald Marin’s artistic universe: light, colour, movement, seaside life and a feeling of freedom, expressed through a figurative style that is luminous, elegant and highly decorative.
Canvas dimensions: 50 × 61 cm.
Framed dimensions: 55 × 66.5 cm.
